Luboš Skala

Guest of the Opera

Luboš Skala started his singing career at the age of six. First he began his studies at the musical school in Prague where he also started to play the piano. In the year 1997 he became member of Prague choir “Bambini di Praga”. His passion to sing led him in the Musical High School of Jan Neruda placed in Prague. He started to study here under the professor Jaroslav Mrazek in the age of eleven. In 2006 he was accepted into the Music Academy of Performing Arts in Prague where he completed his studies in 2012 under the direction of Prague National Theater soloist Roman Janál. In 2011/2012 he participated in the EU Erasmus Programme at Conservatorium Maastricht – Maastricht Academy of Music in Netherlands under the professor Frans Kokkelmans. He has also honed his vocal technique at master classes in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and Netherlands (Kurt Moll, Anatolli Goussev, Nikolaus Hillebrand, Peter Dvorský, Nelly Miricioiu). During the studies he achieved a lot of accomplishments and won several important prizes at international voice competitions.Among the most significant for his career have been the 1st Prize at the “Song Competition of Bohuslav Martinů”, the 2nd Prize at the international competition “Cursed Music” in Schwerin and the 2nd Prize in the junior category + the 3rd Prize in the opera category at the “Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary (2011 and 2013)” together with special prize of  J.K.Tyl Theater in Pilsen including contract for session 2014/2015. In 2008 he became a guest in the Liberec Opera, where he debuted as the Impresario in Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma. In the Liberec Opera he also sings role of Julius Caesar( G.Fr. Händle- Julius Caesar). In 2014 he appeared as a guest under the conductor Marek Štilec and the direction  of Martin Otava at the F.X.Šalda Theater in Liberec as Albrecht of Wallenstein in the world premiere of opera Legend of the Catherine of Redern composed by a renowned Sylvie Bodorová.  In the year 2009 he also cooperated with the Prague State Opera, where he sang three roles in Death in Venice composed by B. Britten.  In his music career he already performed in several actions. He sang solo in Oslo with the orchestra Piccoli Archi di Praga. By winning the international competition “Cursed music” he took part in international tour of winners in couple states such as Germany, Austria and others. He has made many concert appearances including with Czech Chamber Orchestra – in the famous Czech hall Rudolfinum, Prague Philharmonia, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, North Bohemian Philharmonic, Philharmonic Orchestra of South Bohemia. He has also recorded several pieces with Czech Radio (2004-2014).
